They say that already in antiquity pizza was a delicacy in the region of the Apennine Peninsula. Then, it was reinvented in Naples, where the oldest pizzeria in Italy – dating back to the 18th century – is still operating! The oldest type of pizza is the fishermen's favourite Pizza Marinara. The second most popular, with a universal, basic topping, is Margherita, named after the Queen of Italy, Margherita di Savoia, who really enjoyed eating this particular pizza. Rumour has it that she especially liked the fact that tomatoes, mozzarella and basil do resemble, in terms of colours, the Italian flag.
